How Healthy Are My Rice Plants?!

In this episode of Rice Farming TV, I will determine how healthy my rice plants are. A Color Leaf Chart will help me decide if I need to apply additional fertilizer to my rice fields. The optimal fertilization of rice is important because it not only ensures the overall health of the plant but it will also help achieve a maximum yield.

The color leaf chart is a tool used throughout California rice production by many different rice farmers.

Rice Harvest 2018 | How Rice Is Harvested In Brazil!

Learn how rice is harvested in Brazil during the 2018 rice harvest. I'm in Joinville, Santa Catarina driving down Rodovia do Arroz (Rice Highway), through the Villa Nova rural district of the city, looking for a rice farmer harvesting rice.

In the southern states of Brazil, due to the climate, farmers are able to harvest rice twice a year. In February it's their first harvest and what rice seeds fall behind will serve as the second crop.

There's a lot of ripe rice out there but with daily rains, farmers are having a difficult time keeping the harvesters cutting. The combine used by this Brazilian rice farmer is a New Holland Harvest Combine.

How Rice Is Planted In California: Breaking Ground!

Planting rice in California is easy. What I mean is that the seeding of rice is easy. You call the local crop-duster, tell him the ground is ready and to fly on the rice seed. The difficult part, which is time-consuming, critical and taxing is preparing the ground--getting it ready for the rice seed. In this video, I will give you an overview of how a California rice farmer prepares his rice fields for seeding. Enjoy.

A Quick Tour Of Northern California Farmland!

We're going to take a quick tour of Northern California farmland because I want to update you on the growth stages of our rice. In order to do that I'll pull a rice plant from our earliest seeded rice field and a plant from our last seeded field. This will give us a great side-by-side comparison.

In order to get from these two fields, we'll need to drive through the county which will give me the opportunity to show you the diversity of agriculture in Northern California. We'll pass by corn fields, sunflowers, almond orchards, tomatoes and, of course, rice!

Also, I want to show you a Killdeer (bird) nest with newly hatched eggs. I'll explain how adult Killdeer uses the broken wing act to lure predators away from their nests and hatchlings.

Bacon And Egg Fried Rice

Serving Size: 4

INGREDIENTS
3 large eggs
8 ounces bacon
1 medium onion
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
5 cups cooked rice
Salt, to taste
Black pepper, to taste
1 teaspoon sugar
2 tablespoons soy sauce

Garnish
Green onions, chopped

PREPARATION
Beat three eggs in an empty bowl, add a bit of salt until well-combined.
Cut bacon into 1-inch pieces and dice the onion finely.
Heat oil in either a wok or nonstick frying pan over medium heat, and add beaten eggs. Gently scramble the eggs, when the egg is almost done, remove from wok, and set aside.
Add bacon to the wok and allow it to render down and become crisp. Once the bacon is done, take it out of the wok and set aside, along with the scrambled eggs.
Add the diced onion to the wok and stir-fry until translucent. Then add the cooked rice, make sure the rice is fluffed and cooled, and stir-fry for 2 to 5 minutes. Use a spatula to break up any clumps. Add the salt, pepper, sugar, and soy sauce. Stir for another minute or so.
Once there is steam coming off the rice and is completely heated through, add scrambled eggs and cooked bacon.
To serve, sprinkle with green onion. Enjoy.

Cilantro Lime Rice Recipe

Here is a recipe that I have fine-tuned for about a year now. I love the rice Chipotle serves so much, that is really becoming a focus of mine to do right. I am quite satisfied with how this tastes. Oh, and using a fresh lime is truly important. Though there are many recipes out there that also claim to be the copycat, I get the best results doing it the way I show you in the video.
Please adjust flavor and seasoning since most people will have slightly varying ideas of the amounts. Good luck! Thank you for stopping by
